Our Story
The Remington Foundation was born from one family's gratitude and a mission to ensure that every pet has access to the rehabilitation and pain management they need to live healthier, happier lives.
In 2015, our journey began at Cornell University's Department of Pain Management and Physical Therapy, where Dr. Joe Wakslagg and his intern, Dr. Chris Frye, provided extraordinary care for our beloved dog, Remington. By the age of two, Remington had undergone 15 major surgeries, requiring extensive rehabilitation, physical therapy, and pain management. The compassion, expertise, and dedication of the Cornell team gave Remington the best possible quality of life during an incredibly challenging time.
Inspired by that experience, Ceanna and Randy Augusiewicz established the Remington Fund in 2015 to help other families facing similar challenges. What began as a way to give back has grown into a permanent legacy through the Remington Foundation, a lifetime endowment dedicated to supporting Cornell's Department of Pain Management and Physical Therapy.
Today, under the leadership of Dr. Chris Frye, the department has expanded dramatically, treating thousands of dogs—and many cats—each year. Support from the Remington Foundation has helped the program grow in both staff and resources, allowing it to serve more patients while providing invaluable hands-on clinical experience for veterinary students preparing for careers in rehabilitation, pain management, and sports medicine.
The Foundation also helps ease the financial burden for families whose pets require rehabilitation after surgery, injury, or due to the effects of aging. By helping make these specialized treatments more accessible, we give more animals the opportunity to recover, regain mobility, and enjoy a better quality of life.
Since its founding, the Remington Foundation has raised more than $100,000 to support this important work. As we look to the future, our commitment remains the same: to expand access to exceptional veterinary rehabilitation, support the next generation of veterinary professionals, and honor Remington's legacy by helping countless more animals receive the care they deserve.
Every donation helps create another success story—and another chance for a beloved pet to thrive.
